Hugh Lawson-Tancred

Position:Associate Research Fellow
Office:Department of Philosophy
Birkbeck, University of London

I am an Associate Research Fellow at Birkbeck, University of London, in the Department of Philosophy.

Research Interests

My research concerns two main areas. The first is the philosophical issues raised by the mathematical modelling of cognitive linguistic states and the second is the attempt to develop a specific data ethics on the basis of the cognitivist approach pioneered by Mark Johnson.

I also teach the ethics module in both the Birkbeck Data Science MSc (under the aegis of the Birkbeck Institute for Data Analytics (BIDA)) and the joint Birkbeck-Central St Martin’s MBA. I am on the Ethics Committee of the Society of Data Miners (SocDM).

I have also worked as an investment banker and have translated two monographs on the Russian bond and foreign exchange markets for Euromoney Books.
