Interviews are expected to take place in April, and the studentship will start in September 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The GEL Lab celebrates Rosalind Franklin\u2019s contribution to genetics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The GEL Lab is leading a\nseries of events this year to mark 100 years since the birth of Rosalind\nFranklin, a pioneer in the field of genetics and an alumni of Birkbeck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme of events commenced in January with the first in a series of genetics workshops aimed at Year 6 primary school children. The team visited Rhodes Avenue Primary School in North London to give a short lecture and worked with the children to extract DNA and explore the genetic basis of taste. It was hugely enjoyable experience for the GEL Lab, and early feedback from the students is encouraging, with many of the children citing it as one of the highlights of their science learning for their entire primary career!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The GEL Lab will be continuing their activities throughout the year. We wish her luck in her next position!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Maternity leave news<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Anna Gui will shortly be going on maternity leave, and we can&#8217;t wait for her to return later in the year.
