This is by guest contributor <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ismb.lon.ac.uk\/mark-williams\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr Mark Williams<\/a>, who is a lecturer in Biophysics in Birkbeck&#8217;s Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology.  The blog ties in with our year celebrating the 100th anniversary of Rosalind Franklin&#8217;s birth &#8211; see more about those celebrations <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gel.bbk.ac.uk\/home\/2020-anniversary-events\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. Mark&#8217;s blog is entitled &#8220;<strong>Why is Rosalind Franklin a hero in structural biology?<\/strong>&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In October, we welcome new GEL lab PhD student <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gel.bbk.ac.uk\/about-us\/maria-pitharouli-phd-student\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maria Pitharouli<\/a> to the lab.  Maria will be using genetic methods to explore the causal links between education, depression and inflammation.
