Title: Selfish reasons to practice open, transparent, and reproducible research

Abstract: This talk explores the personal benefits that researchers can gain by adopting open research practices. While the primary motivation for open, transparent, and reproducible research often emphasizes the broader scientific and societal advantages, this presentation highlights how these practices can directly benefit individual researchers, such as enhancing the visibility and impact of one’s work, fostering collaboration and networking opportunities, increasing the accuracy and reliability of results, and gaining a competitive edge in funding and career advancement. Central to the talk is to take a practical approach to making open research practices routine, recognising that these practices can be effortful and not always align with current incentives to publish and acquire grants in high volume.
