Founded in 2012, the Centre for Cognition, Computation and Modelling draws on the Department of Psychological Science’s long-standing track record in producing leading modelling research. Unique to the Centre are the breadth of modelling approaches that are pursued: researchers are actively engaged in leading research in connectionist modeling, symbolic modelling and cognitive architectures, mathematical modelling and Bayesian models of cognition. At the same time, ongoing projects draw on sophisticated computational methods for artificial agents. Integral to the ethos of this research is an interdisciplinary, integrative outlook that seeks to provide not just specific models, but is also engaged with wider, theoretical questions about the relationship between models and data, types of models, and the benefits and limitations of computational methods more generally.
